Les Paul has a special place in the history of the electric guitar. A brilliant player, he also took an active interest in guitar design. After a series of abortive discussions with commercial guitar makers, including Leo Fender, Les agreed to collaborate with Gibson on a mass-production solid-body electric that would bear his name.

The legantly shaped, gold-topped Gibson Les Paul appeared in 1952. It was described as “the instrument everyone has been waiting for.” Gibson president Ted McCarty and his team of designers and craftsmen were heavily involved in the design of the new guitar.

This is a Gibson Custom Shop replica of the 1956 version fitted with Gibson P-90 single-coil pickups with adjustable bridge and “stud” or “stop” tailpiece.
