Gretsch 6121 Chet Atkins
By the mid-1950’s, Chet Atkins (1924-2001) was already one of Nashville’s most respected guitarists, with several best-selling records and many high-profile TV and radio appearances to his name.
He became a Gretsch endorsee in 1954, and the company introduced two new electric models bearing his signature. These were the Chet Atkins Hollow Body (6120), and the Chet Atkins Solid Body (6121).
While these instruments are described in the firm’s 1955 catalog as a “blend of Chet Atkins’ own ideas…with Gretsch ‘know-how'”, some aspects were not to the musician’s liking, especially the Western-style decorations on their headstocks and fret markers, and the saddle-leather body binding on the 6121.
