The first Ovation basses were electrics.

It’s 1968 catalog announced the introduction of two “Typhoon” slimline models with, respectively, one and two pickups, which were part of the company’s “Electric Storm” range.

Today, Ovation basses all have acoustic bodies: the B768 model shown here is part of it’s “Elite” series, whose offset, miniature multi-soundholes, with their leafy “epaulets”, resemble those found on Ovation Adamas guitars. However, unlike Adamas models, Elites have 100% wood tops made from either cedar or, in the case of the B768, spruce. A deep bowl is fitted to this bass, and it’s “plugged-in” sound is supplied via an OP24+ pre-amplifier with 3-band equalization.

The model has now been discontinued.
