PRS Mark Tremonti
Mark Tremonti was the founder and lead guitarist of the mainstream rock group Creed, best known for their 1999 hit “Higher”. While he did not have the influence of some of the “guitar gods” whose names were on signature models, he gave PRS guitars unique exposure due to the controversy among Christian music fans over whether or not Creed was a Christian rock band.
For his 2001 signature model, Tremonti chose PRS’s Singlecut as a starting point. The Tremonti model featured the four-knob and three-way toggle switch controls that PRS had introduced on the Singlecut only a year earlier, but Tremonti went with a thicker mahogany back than the regular model.
The pickups were wound to his personal specifications. Cosmetic touches included bird inlays on the fingerboard, a pearl-trimmed truss-rod cover, and Tremonti’s signature inlaid at the 12th fret pickups.
Like the Singlecut model, Tremonti production was suspended while litigation between PRS and Gibson was settled. His signature model returned to production in 2005.
