The “Squier” trademark was acquired by Fender from the V.C. Squier string-making firm in 1965 and, since 1983, has been used as a brand name for budget-priced, mostly Far Eastern-manufactured versions of the great American guitar company’s instruments.

It’s “OBEY” range, launched in 2006, features graphic finishes by Americn artist Shepard Fairey, are striking and highly original. Fairey (b.1970) made his name as the creater of posters and street art bearing Orweillian slogans such as “Obey”, and “You Are Under Surveillance”.

The artwork was applied to a special series of Squier Telecasters and Stratocasters. The dull finish of the tuners and other metalwork created an effective contrast to the body.
