Martin ‘Felix’ Limited Edition
The cartoon character Felix The Cat made his debut in a movie short in 1919. Felix himself was created and originally drawn by Otto Messmer, but acquired a restyled look when Joe Oriolo took over the production of “Felix” artwork from Messmer.
The lovable feline has proved perennially popular in a variety of different media, and in 2004, it was announced that Joe Oriolo’s son Don had teamed up with the Martin company to produce a “Felix” guitar. The limited edition instrument (only 756 were produced), has a travel-size body made from high pressure laminates. It’s back and sides are black, and it’s spruce-braced top is adorned with multiple Felix heads, as well as a “Felix The Cat” logo, and Don Oriolo’s signature.
