Fender Coronado XII
Gibson introduced semi-hollow 12-strings under the Gibson and Epiphone brands in 1965, and when Fender announced it’s forthcoming semi-hollowbody electrics late in that year, the new series included the Coronado XII 12-string.
It did not fare well upon release when compared to Fender’s solidbody Electric XII (introduced in mid 1965).
Perhaps it was the DeArmond pickups – Fender’s first out-sourced pickups – or maybe it was the incongruity of Fender’s standard bolt-on neck on a traditional-style archtop electric, but something about Coronados did not sit right with guitarists, and all Coronados were gone by 1970.
