Fender announced the Jaguar in 1962.

It had a number of novel features, including a neck with a 24-inch scale (1 1/2 inches shorter than a Telecaster or Stratocaster) and was designed to appeal to musicians with smaller hands.

A string mute was installed between the back pickup and the bridge and could be “activated or disengaged by the light touch of a finger”.

It was possible to combine either or both of the Jaguar’s pickups, while a separate set of controls allowed players to pre-set volume and tone levels for rhythm. It also had a “Synchronized tremolo”.

It was discontinued in 1974, but developed a cult following.
