In 1950, Fender introduced a solid-bodied electric guitar for “Spanish-style” playing, with a wooden slab body and bolted-on neck.

Originally named the Esquire, Fender re-named it the Broadcaster, and finally the “No-Caster” after a trademark dispute with Gretsch.
