Gibson made major changes to their Firebird series in 1965.

The guitars’ reverse bodies and headstocks were abandoned, sideways-mounted tuners were fitted, and the “neck-through-body” construction was replaced with a standard neck joint.

There were also some hardware changes: the P-90 pickups were substituted for humbuckers on the Firebird I and III.

By 1969, the vamped models were dropped. But affection for the original Firebirds led to several revivals and reissues. This Firebird V model has the original “reverse” features.
