Martin HD12-35SJC Judy Collins
Of the two Martin Judy Collins “signature edition” guitars, this 12-string model is perhaps the most personal to her.
It’s basic design is similar to the D12-35 Martin Dreadnaught that she has performed with for many years. Like many folk-influenced singers of her generation, she was almost certainly inspired to take up the 12-string, whose rich, jangling sound is ideal for vocal accompaniment, after hearing it being used by Pete Seeger, and before him, Leadbelly. She has also frequently recorded with former Byrd Roger McGuinn, perhaps the most distinctive of the instrument’s exponents.
The Collins guitar combines fine woods with sonic excellence and outstanding decoration, including the columbine headstock inlay.
