Ovation Viper
Ovation entered the conventional electric guitar market in 1968 with it’s “Electric Storm” range. This comprised seven semi-hollow models, including a 12-string and two basses, all of which were given appropriately “meteorological” names (Thunderhead, Tornado, Hurricane, Typhoon).
The company’s second generation of electrics was solid-bodies. The Breadwinner (1972) and Deacon (1973) shared an asymmetrical shape, but the Preacher and Viper, dating from 1975, were more conventional-looking.
The former sported a double cutaway and stereo circuitry, while the latter, showen here, had a simpler, single-cutaway design. It also had single-coil pickups, replaced by twin-coil units on this modified guitar.
