Rickenbacker 360/12VP 12-String

Rickenbacker announced it’s first electric 12-string guitars, including the 360/12, in 1963; they were introduced the following year, and early adopters included The Beatles’ George Harrison, and Jim (later Roger) McGuinn of The Byrds.

The 360/12 shares the normal features of it’s 6-string Series 300 counterparts, including a 24-fret neck and 1 1/2 inch body depth.

Perhaps its most striking innovation was the re-ordering of the string pairs that caused their lower-octave notes to be sounded first on a downstroke; other companies’ 12-string groupings place the higher-pitched strings before the lower ones. The Schaller tuners are mounted from both the back and sides of the headstock, an ingenious space-saving feature.
