Silvertone 1448 Electric
Sears, Roebuck & Company of Chicago first used it’s “Silvertone” brand name on a wind-up phonograph in 1915; a few year later; the logo began to appear on Sears radios.
In the 1930s, the company applied it to musical instruments, which had previously carried the “Supertone” marque. Silvertones were supplied to Sears by a number of different manufacturers, known in the trade as “jobbers”. The first electric Silvertones came from Danelectro in NJ.
This instrument dates from 1964, and incorporates typical Nathan Daniel touches like the “lipstick-tube” pickup, and metal and rosewood bridge. It was 1448 in the Sears catalog, and was supplied in a hardboard case with built-in amplifier and loudspeaker.
