Vox Mk VI
In early 1964, Vox designers rounded out the blob body shape of the Apache into a symmetrical teardrop shape – similar to that of a lute.
It’s official names were Phantom Mk III, then Mk VI, but guitarists around the world knew it as the Vox Teardrop that Brian Jones plays in The Rolling Stones.
By the mid 1960s, Vox was on top of the world – on top of three worlds, actually. Jones was one of several guitarists in “British Invasion” groups who were playing Vox’s attention-grabbing guitars. Vox combo organs were featured in the sound of The Dave Clark Five and The Animals. And Vox amps were used by The Beatles.
